Our Pledge

There is an old truth in roofing and that is, "the last guy on the roof gets blamed for all of the "ills" and poor workmanship." Generally, homeowners have no idea what repairs were done thirty feet off the ground, not to mention how the work should "technically" be done. Broken slate should be replaced with the best possible equal or better match. Broken slate should never be "glued" back together. Our pledge to homeowners is that we will always perform our work with pride in a workmanlike manner. We never use substandard materials, nor would we ever face nail or glue slate to the roof. Unless we cannot nail a slate to the roof, we will use hooks. We will treat your house as if it were our own.

When you call for an inspection, don't expect us to get up and trapse around your fragile slate roof. I have been on countless estimates where I've seen other companies walking all over slate roofs that should never be walked on (unless its an experienced slater who know what they are doing). I've even seen a few do inspections wearing heavy constuction boots (on slate roofs. (lightweight roofer's boot or tennis shoes are okay). With a little common sense and experience most problems can be diagnosed without walking on the roof. So, that's our pledge to homeowners. We'll use a common sense approach to diagnosing problems, and perform the work with pride in a workmanlike manner.

Snow Guards

A slate roof without snow guards is like playing football without pads. Snow and ice can be very damaging to slate roofs and gutters, not to mention shrubs and glass tables. While snow guards wont eliminate damage in every circumstance, when properly selected and installed, they will lessen potential damage. Snow and falling ice from roofs is also a serious safety risk. Years agos, snow and ice would cascade off of the roofs at Belvedere Market, creating a treacherous situation for anyone walking below. That problem was solved by the installation of snow guards. Some people call them "snow birds" after a specific snow guard design, but whatever you call them, they are an important component in keeping damage to a minimum.

Slate Roof Repair

As a slate roofing specialist, we have encountered many situations over the years involving slate roof repairs, faulty repairs and misinformation about slate roofing. In this section of our website, we will try to identify correct and incorrect methods of slate roofing repair and installation. While physically demanding, slate repairs are relatively simple. Repairs become more complicated than necessary, creating more headaches for homeowners, when tried and true methods of repair are avoided using shortcuts that turn out to be more time consuming.

How to Repair a Slate Roof

One of the unique features of a slate roof is that a slate roof is easily repairable. A slate roof is made up of thousands of individual pieces of natural slate. The combination of individual pieces of slate and separate flashing components allow repairs to be made in localized areas without replacing the entire roof.
